Gunter 8u wins State in Dixie (2010)

The Gunter Tigers, an 8U coach pitch baseball team, will be heading to the Dixie National Tournament after a first-place finish at the Dixie State Tournament this week.

The Gunter Tigers completed the regular season and district play with an undefeated record. After winning the All-Star district tournament in Melissa, the Tigers headed to Sulphur Springs for the 2010 Dixie Youth AA Coach Pitch State Tournament held July 3-7.

The Gunter All-Star team played hard at the tournament, beating tough competition from around the state and capped off the 5 days with a best 2-of-3 series against the Prosper Eagles, 2009’s State Champions.

The Tigers played nine games against six different teams to become the 2010 Dixie State Champions.

The Gunter Tigers now advance to the 2010 Dixie Youth AA Region III Coach Pitch World Series to be held July 17-19 in Longview. This is the first time in history that a team from Gunter, Texas has advanced to the World Series in the Dixie Organization.

Several of the Tiger players received special recognition at the State tournament.

Jasek Hooker, Kyle Watson, and Zander Turner received home run balls for hitting it out of the park during the state tournament. Each player was presented a commemorative ball and case signed and presented by Texas Dixie League State Director Bill Sanders.

Coaches for the Gunter Tigers are Josh Lowe, Kyle Rigsby, Greg Whitteker, and Randall Denton.
